We live in a 2-story house, with 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, near Charleston, SC. Our home is located in the suburbs where we enjoy the best of both worlds - the small town feeling with city life just minutes away.
When it came time to build a home, we chose both the location and the layout with children in mind. Everyone joked about how much space we were getting for just the two of us. But, it was never meant to be just the two of us. We’ve planned for our future family from the very beginning.
Our neighborhood is a quaint single street filled with colorful Charleston-style row houses. From yellow (our house!) to pink and blue, just driving down the street can put a smile on your face. We are fortunate to live in one of the best rated school districts in South Carolina. We are within half a mile of a hospital and 3 fire stations.
We are lucky that our neighborhood isn’t a large sprawling subdivision that is so common today. With a smaller number of homes planned for the community, we have had the opportunity to meet and get to know many of our neighbors. That is something that you rarely see these days in many larger housing developments.
The back of our lot is wooded and borders a community center, with adjacent soccer and baseball fields. Throughout the year, we enjoy hearing the various teams and spectators cheer as they urge the players to get a goal or run to home base.
There are also miles of paved walking and biking trails right at our back door, as well as a community pool. We frequently get the opportunity to meet dog walkers and cyclists when we are out and about on the trails. The walking trails border a running creek: the perfect place for little ones to explore and discover new things, such as tadpoles!
We’re on minutes away from the beautiful Charleston historic district. There are lots of things to see and do. Charleston is a virtual treasure trove for discovery and educational opportunity. We’ve lived here for 15 years and have hardly scratched the surface. From majestic plantation homes and carriage rides to the aquarium and the beaches, we have yet to take in all the sights and would welcome the opportunity to explore all the area has to offer with our children. There is even a great new water park just down the way! We’re just dying to try it out.
